July 12 Committee Meeting

Meeting Minutes:

Present: John Reinhardt, Kevin Hanson, David Olson, Craig Lanoue, John Bertrand, Jeff Hanson, Leon Rettman.

There will be a calendar meeting on Thursday, August 2 at 8:00 at St. Eds. We will put together a draft calendar for Fall 2007 – Summer 2008. The draft will be discussed at the committee meeting the next week.

Fall Roundup is Sept. 10 – 21. We decided on Sept. 11 and 13 as recruiting nights at Olson and Ridgeview.

We need volunteers to staff booths at the Olsen and Ridgeview Back to School night.

Fall fundraising starts Sept. 29. We need to find a pack fund raising chair as soon as possible. Each den will should also have a fund raising coordinator.

The pack should consider participating in Bloomington’s Memorial Day parade.

John Bertrand can get bottled water for free, which we can then resell. Den leaders should ask around for ideas on events where we can sell the water.

University of Scouting will be Oct. 27.

Laura Hanson volunteered to call Three Rivers Park District on Jan. 1 to reserve the Sumac Knoll campsite.

Action Items:

All den leaders
*Find/Appoint a den coordinator for fall fundraising
*Ask parents about volunteering to be pack fundraising chair for this fall
*Ask parents to help identify events where we could sell bottled water (John Bertrand can get the water for free)

June 14 Committee Meeting

Meeting Minutes:
Present: John Reinhardt, Kevin Hanson, Judy Bedor

* Cubanapolis is Saturday, June 23 at 9:30 at St. Eds.

* Summer Picnic is Saturday, July 14 at 11:30 – 2:30 at Smith Park.

* Fund raising starts in September. We plan to organize fund raising around a fund raising chair and den coordinators. The idea is that the den coordinator makes life easier for the den leader, and the den coordinators make life easier for the fund raising chair. Please start asking the parents in your den to consider volunteering to be the fund raising chair or den coordinator.

* We reviewed the June campout (what worked, what can we improve?): The fishing activity went well. The graduation ceremony with the books and neckerchiefs was a big success. Parents should be reminded that when they commit to showing up for campout meals, they are liable for the food costs even if they do not attend. Fire safety and behavior around the fire pit was lax and should be improved. We should also have a bucket of water near each fire.

* We are about on target with our spending. We have approximately $4,000 in the pack treasury (the boy accounts are in a separate account). Our budget for Sept. 2006 – Sept. 2007 is a little over $3,000, and we have paid most of our expenses. Historically, the pack has always kept at least a year of funds in reserve. John will report back with more precise numbers next meeting—there are still some expenses outstanding and some funds that need to be collected.

October 10 Committee Meeting

The committee decided to try some new things at the next pack meeting in hopes of improving attention and discipline. The boys will sit in single file on the floor behind their den flags. Parents will be seated at the tables. At the end of the meeting, a feather award will be given to the best-behaved den. The feather is then placed on the den flag. The den leaders will decide together which den gets the award.

The budget was amended by allocating a maximum of $75.00 for each den for den expenses. Den leaders should submit the receipts to the treasurer for reimbursement. Total budget allocation is $375 ($75 x 5 dens). We reallocated the $250 from pack meeting snacks to den expenses, plus added $125 to cover the remainder.
