Welcome new leader.

First, thank you for donating your time and talents to our sons.

Contact your committee chair or cubmaster at any time with questions or concerns.

Concise position brochures (along with much other good info) are available here: http://scouting.org/CubScouts/Leaders/NewLeaderResource.aspx

What's the next step...Training.

Two online courses can be taken at home.  They are "Fast Start" and "Youth Protection".  You should create an account here: http://scoutnet.scouting.org/elearning and complete the "Fast Start" course for your position in the Cub Scouting section and "Youth Protection" in the General section.

In addition, two classroom courses are required to be considered trained.  "New Leader Essentials" and "Position-specific Training" are available throughout the Northern Star Council.  The Council training calendar is here: http://training.nsbsa.org/

As a registered leader of the BSA, you have the priviledge to wear the Scouting uniform.  Leaders who proudly wear the uniform quietly encourage youth to proudly wear the uniform.  The uniform consists of a khaki shirt, the purple world crest emblem, the Northern Star Council shoulder patch, unit numerals and appropriate leadership position patch.  Uniform guidelines may be found here: http://scouting.org/CubScouts/Uniform.aspx

You may also earn awards to wear on your uniform as a registered leader.  More info here: http://scouting.org/cubscouts/awards/adults/adultawards.aspx

Want more?  Supplemental training is available throughout the year.

  • District roundtable meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month (September - May).  These meetings loosely simulate a pack meeting and include gereal announcements and position specific supplemental training.
  • The "University of Scouting is held twice per year (October and April).  This is a full day of supplemental training ranging from how to tie knots, dealing with ADD scouts, cooking with Cub Scouts, etc.
